Through the Starting My Business (SMB) program, Sister Analyn Lita Barba found an opportunity to start a retail business for selling daily necessities. She targeted the sale of rice and oil, which people use daily. She learned how to think big by starting small. Sister Barba learned about various business strategies in the SMB class, including the importance of understanding customer needs, budgeting, and marketing. However, she struggled with how to approach customers due to a lack of experience engaging in effective sales conversations. The SMB class provided hope, guidance, and encouragement to seek help from Heavenly Father. She then found clarity and direction to create new ideas and post her business online. She gained recognition through word of mouth. Sister Barba applied the principles of self-reliance in her business. She learned wise money management, including budgeting and prioritizing. Her family benefited as they learned the discipline in both finances and performing daily tasks. Her experience significantly influenced her church service and obedience to the Law of Tithing and Word of Wisdom. Her earnings provided for their needs and future investments. She continues to grow her business step by step, making consistent efforts to expand her customer base and increase profits. Sister Barba was grateful for the SMB program. She learned the principles of self-reliance and how to think like a business owner. She said, “I’ve learned that blessings come through hard work, and that Heavenly Father loves and supports me.” She encourages SMB participants to be hopeful, no matter what challenges they may face.
